Friday is Friends Day!

A local Bereavement and Friendship Café is celebrating!  The group which is based in the centre of Clacton, began in January and has enjoyed a steady increase in membership. It has now decided to run weekly instead of fortnightly and at the same time volunteers and members have agreed a change in name to the Bereavement and Friendship café which demonstrates the social benefits and opportunities to learn new things and make new friends.

Speakers so far have been from the WI, Gong therapy and a trip to the Beth Chatto Gardens is also planned for May 2014.

The café offers a safe and supportive environment to listen and share experiences with others attending, get to hear from speakers about local services, make new friends, enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit and generally socialise with other people.

The sessions provides useful information, the opportunity if willing to share life experiences and local organisations are invited in to give a talk about services which may be of interest. Members can get involved in organising the weekly café and outings.

We have lots of fantastic activities happening throughout 2014, so don’t miss out!

All residents are welcome to drop in at any time at our Bereavement and Friendship Café, every Friday morning, 10am – 12noon which is completely FREE!

‘Who Will Care?’: Mobilising Essex event, 4th April 2014

Circulated on behalf of Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett

Invitation to ‘Who Will Care?’: Mobilising Essex event, 4th April 2014

I would like to invite you to an important event taking place on 4th April 2014 from 11.00am – 3.30pm at Western Homes Colchester Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester, Essex CO4 5UP.  The purpose of the day will be to:

  • update you on work to implement the high impact solutions recommended by the ‘Who Will Care?’ commission on the future of health and social care in Essex;
  • agree some major new initiatives across Essex for supporting people in their communities.

In order to do this I am seeking to bring together key decision-makers to identify community schemes that are successfully helping people in need of care and support. During the day we will  test these out and agree which might be scaled up and rolled out more widely.  I hope you will attend this event so that we can work together on this important agenda.  Please can you reply to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 28th March 2014 indicating whether you can attend.

If you have a scheme or project(s) that you would like to be considered as an example of good practice, please complete the attached template and return this to the same email address. We would also like you to cascade this invitation. When you do so we ask you to:-

  • Encourage details of good local schemes to be submitted by the deadline so they can be considered on 4th April 2014 for investment and roll out.
  • Remind people that they MUST register their interest in attending by the deadline 26th March 2014 and responding to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The social and health care challenge we all face requires an urgent and decisive response from communities.
