Crucial Crew Event Gives Advice To Older People On Staying Safe

An event giving advice to older people on staying safe across a whole range of topics returned to Clacton today (Thursday, September 27).

The Older Persons’ Crucial Crew, now in its fifth year, was held at Clacton’s Princes Theatre.

More than 100 people came to the free-to-attend event, organised by the Tendring Community Safety Partnership, which saw speakers give advice from seven organisations, ranging from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to Essex Police, and a solicitors’ firm.

Other community groups also had stands at the event, which was opened by Essex Police’s Tendring Community Policing Team Inspector Darren Deex.

The event is run like speed-dating, where speakers from each organisation talk to smaller groups, allowing people to really listen and ask questions and get more out of the event.

Lynda McWilliams, chairwoman of the Tendring Community Safety Partnership and Tendring District Council Cabinet Member responsible for Community Safety, said she was pleased with how the event went.  This event is a great way of picking up some really useful tips on everything from fire safety and preventing crime, to having a will and keeping fit and healthy, Cllr McWilliams said.  “Each year the Crucial Crew is more popular and I am pleased to see so many people come along, recognising you can always learn something new – I know I always pick up a tip I had not heard before.”

Employer Says Going To The Tendring Jobs And Careers Fair Could Change Your Life

An employer looking to hire new recruits at next week’s Tendring Jobs and Careers Fair has said those who go along could change their life.

Andrew Wilford, from Lifehouse Spa, has successfully recruited people from the event in the past, and will be back at the fair held in Clacton’s Princes Theatre.

The Tendring Jobs and Careers Fair is organised by Tendring District Council (TDC) in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions. It takes place on October 2 between 10am-4pm.

Andrew, who recruited events co-ordinator Jake Leonard at last year’s fair, said: “There are so many talented people in Tendring and it’s great to see all those people looking for work at the jobs fair – it’s the ideal opportunity to get to meet people and hopefully employ some staff, especially if they are of the same calibre as Jake.

“If you’re looking for work or a change of career then go and see what there is open to you, there are so many recruiters there. It might be two or three hours out of your life, but it could change your life by just taking your CV with you, and you might never look back.”

Jake, who got the job after leaving his CV and then getting an interview, added: “I came across the stand and was impressed by what I saw, and keen to get involved.

“I would definitely advise you, if you’re looking for work, to go along.”

Charlie Crick, of Voyage Care, was recruited to the firm as a result of the jobs fair in 2016 – and is now going back in a bid to find new staff to join him on the team.

He said: “You don’t need experience, all you need is a personality, to be bubbly and outgoing, and have a passion to make a difference. Caring is the most rewarding job I have ever done.

“The jobs fair is extremely welcoming and you get the opportunity to speak to people in the same boat as yourself. Everyone is there for the right reason, to help people get back into work, and I can’t speak highly enough of the Tendring jobs fair.”

The recruitment process can be almost instant at the jobs fair, with some employers offering on-the-spot interviews.

“Because we are based so close to the jobs fair, if you are keen and seem suitable we can send you over and have a spot interview on the day,” Charlie added.

Zoe Fairley, TDC Cabinet Member for Investment and Growth, said the event was one of the easiest ways to find a new job in Tendring.

“With so many opportunities on offer, and the potential for a really quick hiring process, getting a new role at the Tendring Jobs and Careers Fair couldn’t be easier,” Cllr Fairley said.

“So if you’re looking for a new job, or a new career, put this date in your diary and come down.”

or find the event Facebook page @tendringjobsandcareersfair – which also details some current vacancies.

Free shuttle buses will run to the event from Jaywick Sands and Harwich and Dovercourt. To reserve your place on the Harwich and Dovercourt shuttle bus, which runs from the Harwich Jobcentre, call 01255 206724. For a place on the Jaywick Sands bus, call 01255 234129.

The Tendring Jobs and Careers Fair is sponsored by Affinity Water, Electric Center, Galloper Wind Farm, Harwich Haven Authority, Horizon Construction, Hughes Electrical, Surya Foods, Surya Hotels, Red7Marine and Rose Builders.
