Jaywick Sands Residents To Be Written To About Warmer Homes Scheme

Letters will be sent out this week to residents in Jaywick Sands with details of a Warmer Homes scheme available to them.  Capture Carbon is running the initiative in the area as part of the national Energy Company Obligation scheme to help tackle fuel poverty.  It is offering free measures to help make homes warmer, and is available to residents whether they own their own home or privately rent.

Measures may include loft, wall or underfloor insulation, or an upgraded heating system, and an assessment of homes will be carried out first to determine which measures would be most effective.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring District Council (TDC) Cabinet Member for Housing and with responsibility for Jaywick Sands, encouraged people to make use of the initiative.

“Usually when a company says it is offering free measures such as this it can seem too good to be true, but in this instance it really is,” Cllr Honeywood said.

“We have worked with Capture Carbon to ensure this scheme is as effective as it can be, and I would really urge residents who receive a letter to look into this initiative and take advantage of it.  A warmer home can help reduce hospital admissions by cutting down on the chance of illness developing, and by being more efficient can save money too.”

Panto Stars Bring Christmas Cheer Across North Essex

The stars of this year’s pantomime at Clacton’s Princes Theatre have been out and about meeting people before they take to the stage from Saturday, December 8.

Wendy, Smee, Tiger Lily and Mrs Darling first met the public at the Victorian Christmas Market, held at the Princes Theatre on Saturday, November 17.

Later that day they also visited young patients on the Children’s Ward at Colchester General Hospital to hand out presents and try to put smiles on the faces of those being cared for at the time.

On Sunday (November 25) X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins, who plays Peter Pan in this year’s Polka Dot Pantomimes production, and some of the cast helped to switch on Colchester’s Christmas lights, while this coming weekend they will turn on Clacton’s Christmas lights at the festive event taking place on Saturday, December 1.

Marcus said: “I love being able to get out and meet people and spread some Christmas cheer – it’s what doing panto is all about, so to be able to get festive before we tread the boards is brilliant,” he said.

“There was such a buzz at the Colchester light switch-on – an atmosphere I am sure will be even bigger at Clacton this weekend.”

Peter Pan is at the Tendring District Council-run Princes Theatre from December 8 until January 1. To book tickets go online at or call the box office on 01255 686633.
