Residents reminded of changes to services over christmas

Households are being reminded that their waste and recycling collection days will change over the festive period.

Waste and recycling collections will not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

Changes are as below:

Scheduled date

Revised date

Wednesday, 25 December

Friday, 27 December

Thursday, 26 December

Saturday, 28 December

Friday, 27 December

Monday, 30 December

Monday, 30 December

Tuesday, 31 December

Tuesday, 31 December

Thursday, 2 January

Wednesday, 1 January

Friday, 3 January

Thursday, 2 January

Saturday, 4 January

Friday, 3 January

Monday, 6 January

Collections week commencing 6 January will be a day later, with Friday households collected on Saturday. Collections resume as normal on 13 January.

In addition to the above changes, for the first wheelie bin collection after Christmas each household will be allowed an additional two black bags of side waste.

Leisure centre users are also reminded to check the opening times for their facility as these may differ during the festive period, while the Princes Theatre Box Office may also have reduced opening times – though theatre-goers can purchase tickets online.

A Tendring District Council spokesperson said waste collection disruption was being kept to a minimum.

“We recognise the festivities can create additional waste, so we are taking the pressure off by allowing some additional waste for people’s first bin collection after Christmas,” they added.

“However, we would encourage people to continue recycling as much as possible, using additional boxes if required.”

People can find updated information on TDC’s Christmas services web page, which has full details of seasonal changes to services across the authority: https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/council/christmas-and-new-year-services-and-opening-times

In an emergency which requires TDC’s assistance residents can contact the council’s Control Centre on 01255 222022, available 24/7.
