Have Your Say On Heritage In Tendring

Residents and other interested parties across Tendring are being urged to have their say on the council’s emerging Heritage Strategy.  The strategy responds to Tendring District Council’s (TDC) aim to protect, promote and celebrate the unique characteristics of the district and the things people most value by actively engaging with our heritage.   This understanding will allow it to be managed successfully as Tendring grows. It aims to strengthen the understanding of what exists, and make sure that assets are valued and reach their full potential, contributing to residents’ quality of life, supporting strong communities, and promoting tourism and economic development.

Gary Guiver, TDC’s Planning Policy Manager, encouraged people to take part.  “Tendring has a rich, though sometimes hidden, heritage – from old priories and the Napoleonic-era Martello Towers to more modern treasures – and this strategy will look at how we can both protect and make the most of these assets,” Mr Guiver said.

The council is hosting a four week public consultation running from Monday 18 November until 5pm on Friday 3 January 2020. There will also be a public exhibition event held at the council offices in Weeley from 4-8pm on Tuesday 3 December.

More information, including the draft strategy itself, can be found on the council’s website at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/planning/heritage-conservation-trees/tendring%E2%80%99s-heritage-strategy
