Hundreds of people visited the stands at the Town Centre Community Fayre held at the Town Square during the Clacton Air Show on Thursday 22 August.  The event was organised by Community Voluntary Services Tendring to enable voluntary and community groups from across the area to promote their services, network with other charities, and raise awareness about their organisation.

26 organisations took part, making this years event the biggest ever Town Centre Community Fayre held by CVST.  Advice, information and a wide variety of games and fun activities were available at every stand.   The Clacton Concert Orchestra pianist and saxophonist duet delighted passers by with a musical ensemble playing live various classical pieces. Colchester Mind’s Tony the Elephant charmed the children and adults alike with his antics.

Lisa Andrews, CVST Deputy Chief Officer, said ‘Despite the rain showers, it was the best ever Community Fayre held with all charities providing a wide variety of  information and activities to attract people of all ages and abilities The day was made all the better by the generous donation from Subway of meal deals for all the stallholders”.

Amy from Clacton Sea Cadets said “today has been a great success for us; we have spoken to loads of families and have given out information about all of the different Sea Cadet Units around the country.  One family from London signed their son up for their local Cadet Force and he will be starting when he returns home!”

The Royal British Legion entertained and attracted 250 visitors to their stand which featured music from the pipe band members.  Sharon Robinson stated they recruited new members to their Clacton branch and also for other branches throughout the country from those visiting the Air Show.

Here's One I Used Earlier!

Community Voluntary Services Tendring, who are this year celebrating their 40th anniversary played host to VIPs, voluntary groups and a Blue Peter legend at its AGM and funding conference on Friday.

There was standing room only as the Chairman of Essex County Council, Cllr Kay Twitchen OBE charmed those present and spoke about the true meaning of community.  Cllr Twitchen said, “Thank you for your warm welcome, it’s a pleasure to return to Clacton” She enthused about the organisations she had visited around the county, and described her experiences of using technology and then handed over to David Wilde, the Chief Information Officer at Essex County Council.  David gave a broad overview about what the Council are doing to help increase people’s access to technology across the county including their Community Computers scheme which saw the handover of three redundant computers to Jaywick Community Resource Centre – part of a scheme that will see 800 computers given away to community groups by the end of 2013.

Television and radio presenter Valerie Singleton OBE entertained and captivated those present in her much loved and inimitable manner, gave autographs and spoke individually to delegates after the event.  Valerie said, “It’s wonderful to be here and I’m sure to return.  I was absolutely delighted to be invited to this event and look forward to working with CVST in the future”.

The event was the culmination of a busy year for CVST and their Chairman, Brenda Ellis, highlighted the achievements and successes of the charity.  She said “the organisation has gone from strength to strength over the last 40 years and has delivered much needed services to the local community”.

After the AGM, delegates took part in a series of seminars providing them with useful information about funding opportunities from Big Lottery, Essex Community Foundation, Lloyds TSB and Essex County Council. Sharon Alexander, CVST’s Chief Officer reported that the event was a huge success and the majority of those attending stated that it was excellent.  She said “CVST has been developing and supporting voluntary action and empowering local people in Tendring for the past 40 years and we intend to continue this for the next 40 and more.”
