Bumper Breakfast for Community Organisations

There was a record attendance at the latest Community Network Breakfast hosted by Community Voluntary Service Tendring with 45 representatives from local organisations in attendance.  The event provided ample opportunities for local organisations to network and find out about other services that can help their clients.  Everyone who attended had a short slot to say a little about their organisation before the main speakers came on. Mandy Blunden, Essex Carers Support, spoke about the recently created volunteer manager forum in Ipswich and asked the audience if there was an appetite to do something similar in the Tendring area which would support the many organisations who use volunteers to run their services.  Keith Jacobs and Jenny Haggis, Tendring District Council, gave information about the arrangements for the new Council Tax Support Scheme with regard to Welfare Reform.

Several of the attendees stated that they had met people from organisations that they were not aware of and had learnt of new services available to signpost their clients to.  One attendee said “meeting many people in one go is a fantastic time resource.”  Another stated ‘this was such a great event – can’t wait for the next one!”  A continental breakfast was provided.

The next Community Network Breakfast is scheduled to take place in June.  Contact CVST if you would like to be sent details nearer the time. Tel: 01255 425 692 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Volunteers sign up in abundance

An event held on Saturday to find new volunteers for local groups saw dozens of people registering their interest in the many opportunities on offer.  Over 40 people signed up as potential volunteers with Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), Age UK Essex, Alzheimers Society Tendring, Essex Carers Support and Family Support Clacton. All are voluntary groups who are based at the CVST Community Information Centre in Rosemary Road, Clacton.  The Volunteer Centre Tendring were also on hand to provide information about other volunteering opportunities across the District.

The event was organised by CVST who this year are celebrating 40 years of working in the community.  Brenda Ellis, Chairman of CVST said “The volunteer recruitment day was a great success with each of the organisations represented signing up an average of 6 new volunteers.  This really goes to show how many people in our local community are willing to give up their time for a good cause”.

One prospective volunteer said “I found exactly the opportunity I was looking for at the first stall I visited and now I can’t wait to start volunteering”, others said that the event was both useful and informative.

All of the organisations involved still have volunteering opportunities available including everything from befriending to administration to activity support workers.
